[Job Opening] Interntional Mathematics Teacher

Full-time | 1-year contract, renewable based on performance and school needs | Start date: April 2027

Ikubunkan Global High School and Junior High School is seeking an International Teacher of Mathematics to join our expanding team in Tokyo from April 2027.
This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who can teach mathematics in English in a rigorous, engaging, and internationally minded way, while also thriving within the context of a Japanese junior and senior high school. We are looking for a teacher who combines strong subject knowledge with excellent classroom practice, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to student growth.

Position overview

This is a full-time teaching position for an educator who can contribute both inside and outside the classroom. The successful candidate will teach mathematics primarily in English and will also contribute to homeroom, curriculum development, school events, and the wider life of the school community. The original position documents describe a full-time load of up to about 17–18 lessons per week together with homeroom and other school duties.

Working schedule

– 5 working days per week
– Scheduled across Monday to Saturday
– Sunday is fixed as a day off
– One additional day off will be assigned by the school

Key responsibilities

– Teach mathematics to high school and/or junior high school students in English
– Plan and deliver well-structured, challenging, and engaging lessons
– Build students’ conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving ability
– Differentiate instruction for learners with varied academic backgrounds and levels of English proficiency
– Design assessments, provide clear feedback, and monitor student progress
– Contribute to subject-based curriculum development
– Support students through homeroom responsibilities
– Participate in meetings, school events, and national and overseas excursions
– Contribute positively to the wider life of the school community

Qualifications

Required
– Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Education, or a related field
– Minimum one year of teaching experience at junior high and/or high school level
– Strong ability to teach mathematics through English
– Excellent communication, organisation, and classroom management skills
– Ability to contribute to a collaborative and professional school environment

Preferred
– Teaching licence or recognised teaching qualification
– Experience in curriculum development
– Experience in bilingual, international, or internationally oriented school settings
– Approximately conversational level Japanese is an advantage
– Experience teaching, or willingness to teach, IT or Physics is a plus
